Chelsea Green may play an entitled “Karen” character on television, but her backstage reputation paints a very different picture. Having experienced the uncertainty of being released by WWE herself in 2020, Green has made it her personal mission to support others who find themselves in that difficult position. Speaking with Denise Salcedo, the current AAA Mixed Tag Team Champion detailed her process for helping released talent land on their feet immediately after receiving the bad news.
Green admitted that her approach might be annoying to some, but it is appreciated by the women in the locker room. Her strategy involves immediately providing contacts for rival promotions like AEW and TNA to ensure the wrestlers have options right away.
“Whenever anyone gets released, the first thing I do is I message them. I’m sure everyone hates me for this, but the girls love me for it, I give them the names of the AEW people that I know that they can contact and the TNA people that they can contact and then anyone else, that ‘I think you can work here, here or here.’”
Green’s advice comes from experience. After her own release in 2020, she refused to fade into obscurity. Instead, she reinvented herself on the independent circuit, wrestling for major promotions like ROH, TNA, and GCW before making a triumphant return as a surprise entrant in the 2023 Royal Rumble. Since her return, she has become one of the most decorated stars in the division, capturing the Women’s Tag Team Championship and holding the Women’s United States Championship twice. Currently, she holds the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championships alongside Ethan Page, proving that there is indeed life—and success—after a release.
