Mercedes Mone’s Future Revealed After Taking “Break” From AEW

It has been roughly two years since Mercedes Moné made her shocking debut in All Elite Wrestling, forever altering the landscape of the women’s division. With her initial contract reportedly nearing its expiration date, speculation has naturally turned to her future. Specifically, fans are questioning whether the “CEO” will re-sign with Tony Khan’s promotion or potentially return to WWE. According to a new report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, the momentum currently favors her staying exactly where she is.

Happy Creatively and Financially

Addressing fan questions on a recent Q&A session, Sapp noted that while he cannot speak definitively to Moné’s internal motives, all signs point to satisfaction. He reported hearing that she is “very happy financially, creatively, and artistically” in AEW. Sapp drew a parallel between Moné and Jon Moxley, noting that both stars left WWE under difficult circumstances and have found significant freedom in AEW. While he acknowledged that Moné was in talks with WWE as late as 2023 before signing with AEW—meaning a return isn’t impossible—his personal belief is that she will remain All Elite.

A Historic Reign Ends

Moné’s leverage in negotiations is backed by a historic run. She recently concluded a record-shattering 584-day reign as the TBS Champion, a tenure that defined the belt for the modern era. Her dominance finally ended at Dynamite: New Year’s Smash, where she dropped the title to Willow Nightingale in a highly acclaimed rematch. Following the loss, Moné’s character took a sharp turn on last week’s Collision.

During a heated promo, she declared she was “sick and tired of the disrespect” from the locker room and announced she was “taking a break from AEW to show everyone why and how she elevated the promotion.” While this hiatus is part of the storyline, it conveniently times out with contract talks. With Revolution on the horizon, AEW will likely want to lock down their top female star to ensure her “return” happens under a new long-term deal.
