One of the most talked-about moments of the past year was Seth Rollins’ “work injury” angle, a storyline so convincing that it blurred the lines of reality. In Episode 4 of WWE: Unreal Season 2, LA Knight—Rollins’ opponent at the time—pulled back the curtain on how they executed the plan.
“Awkward as Hell”
Knight revealed that only a select few people knew about the angle beforehand. He noted that the awkward nature of the spot was intentional to make it feel legitimate to the audience.
“It was awkward as hell, but that’s kind of what sold it. So, um, with it being that awkward, it just kind of, you know, it probably felt flat in the moment, but that also allowed people to be like, ‘Oh shit, okay. Yeah dude’s really hurt.’”
The segment was successful in generating genuine concern, proving that even in the modern era, kayfabe can still be protected with the right execution.
