Update On Rey Mysterio’s Condition Following Injury Scare On WWE Raw

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio gave fans a legitimate scare during last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw, but the latest update on his condition offers a massive sigh of relief as the company heads toward the Royal Rumble. Mysterio was competing in a singles match against Austin Theory when the bout ended in chaotic fashion, leaving the legendary luchador clutching his arm in visible pain and sparking concerns that he had suffered a significant setback just days before the premium live event.

The match finish occurred when Mysterio became distracted by a brawl breaking out at ringside. The rest of The Vision—Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and Logan Paul—began beating down Mysterio’s allies, Dragon Lee and Penta, forcing Rey to take his eyes off his opponent. Theory capitalized on the diversion, hitting a stomp to secure the pinfall victory. However, immediately following the three-count, the situation appeared to turn from storyline to legitimate medical concern. The referee quickly threw up the dreaded “X” signal—the universal sign for a real injury—and rushed to get Mysterio out of the ring. While The Vision continued its attack on Dragon Lee and Penta, Mysterio was notably absent from the physical altercation, further fueling rumors of a serious issue.

Dave Meltzer Provides Optimistic Update On Rey Mysterio

Despite the frightening scene on television, the backstage news is positive. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the early signs regarding Mysterio’s status are “trending optimistic.” Meltzer notes that he has heard the injury is “not serious,” though specific details on the nature of the ailment remain scarce. This update effectively quells fears that Mysterio would be forced to miss significant time or undergo surgery.

This development is crucial given Mysterio’s expected participation in the 30-man Royal Rumble match this Saturday, January 31. At 51 years old, Mysterio has battled a litany of injuries throughout his career, most recently returning to the ring in November 2025 after missing seven months due to a torn groin suffered prior to WrestleMania 41. Currently, there is no indication that Mysterio will be pulled from the card in Saudi Arabia. In fact, Seth Rollins recently named Mysterio as his “dark horse” pick to win the entire Rumble match, citing Rey’s previous victory in 2006 as proof that he can still defy the odds.
