Brock Lesnar returned with a vengeance at the 2026 Royal Rumble, entering at #22 and clearing the ring of talent like Ilja Dragunov and Rey Fenix. However, the moment that had everyone talking was his face-off with former NXT Champion Oba Femi. While Lesnar won the exchange, eliminating the young powerhouse, many fans assumed this was the setup for a marquee match at WrestleMania 42. According to Dave Meltzer, fans shouldn’t book their tickets just yet.
Meltzer: Lesnar vs. Femi Could Happen, But It’s Not Locked In
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer clarified the status of the potential “meat match.” “That’s not 100 per cent by the way…it could happen. I’m not saying it’s not happening. I’m just saying that I was told this one’s not 100 per cent,” he reported. With the card for Las Vegas still taking shape, Femi’s spot opposite “The Beast” is still up in the air.
Meanwhile, another wrestling veteran has a different vision for Lesnar’s future. On Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray pitched a scenario where Gunther—who has already retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles—targets Lesnar next. “Retire AJ at the Rumble, bring back Brock, retire Brock at SummerSlam in his home of Minnesota,” Ray suggested. He argued that this would be the final step in making Gunther a “next level credible World Heavyweight Champion.”
