As the road to WrestleMania 42 heats up, backstage news regarding roster moves and creative plans continues to surface. One of the most significant stories involves the departure of Ava, the daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, from WWE. While her exit was initially framed as a mutual parting of ways, Wrestling Observer Live’s Bryan Alvarez reports that finances played a major role.
Alvarez was told that a primary reason for Ava’s departure was that she believed WWE gave her a “lowball contract offer.” This reportedly follows a pattern in NXT, where other talents have chosen to leave when the company refused to offer a raise. Ava, who had been serving as the General Manager of NXT, announced her exit last week, ending her tenure with the company.
In other NXT news, Fightful Select reports that Sol Ruca wasn’t entirely sold on her big moment at the Royal Rumble. The standout performer executed a “Sol Snatcher” to the outside at the end of the women’s Rumble match, a high-risk move that dazzled fans. However, sources indicate that Ruca “questioned the logic of the spot” backstage. While the move was visually spectacular, the concern regarding its safety and match psychology appears to have been a topic of conversation.
Looking ahead to Las Vegas, Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline reports that Seth Rollins is expected to be back in action sooner rather than later. WWE believes Rollins will return in time for a marquee singles match against Bron Breakker at WrestleMania 42. Meltzer states that this match is “confirmed” to be on the card.
This news ties directly into the mystery of the masked man who attacked Breakker at the Royal Rumble. While “most of the talk” backstage has centered on Grayson Waller being the person under the hood for the attack itself, Meltzer notes that “there is no reason that person would be the one revealed when the time comes.” The prevailing theory is that the attack was a storyline device to write Breakker out of the Rumble and set the stage for his eventual clash with a returning Rollins.
