The advertised World Mixed Tag Team Championship match for the February 7 edition of AAA on FOX underwent a dramatic, last-minute change that resulted in new champions being crowned. Ethan Page and Chelsea Green were scheduled to defend their titles against the team of Lola Vice and Mr. Iguana. However, the match was upended before the competitors could even lock up, as one half of the championship duo was unable to appear at the venue.
Chelsea Green Appears Via FaceTime In Walking Boot
In the segments leading up to the bout, Ethan Page was depicted trying to contact Green via cellphone, growing increasingly agitated as she was nowhere to be found. The situation culminated moments before the match when Page finally connected with Green on FaceTime. The WWE Superstar broke the news that she would not be able to make the show, turning her camera to reveal her foot encased in a walking boot. The visual confirmed that Green was not medically cleared to compete, leaving Page without his championship partner.
With the titles in jeopardy, a replacement was secured in the form of La Hiedra, who stepped into the frame during the video call to offer her services. La Hiedra, a staple of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, stepped up as Page’s new partner for the evening. Despite the veteran experience of La Hiedra, the lack of chemistry between the makeshift team proved to be their undoing. The challengers took full advantage of the chaos, with Lola Vice and Mr. Iguana ultimately defeating Page and La Hiedra to become the new World Mixed Tag Team Champions.
Injury Sustained During SmackDown Qualifier
During the broadcast, commentary provided context for the sudden absence of the “Hot Mess.” Corey Graves stated that Green suffered the leg injury during the February 6 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Green had competed in a high-stakes Elimination Chamber qualifying match on the blue brand, and it appears the physical toll of that contest resulted in the injury that sidelined her just 24 hours later. The setback is a significant blow to Green, who now finds herself without her AAA gold and potentially facing a recovery period during the busiest time of the wrestling calendar.
With Chelsea Green effectively sidelined, the makeup of the upcoming Elimination Chamber match in Chicago on February 28 is now in question. If Green’s injury is severe enough to require significant time off, WWE officials will likely need to name a replacement for the qualifying field or the match itself. As of now, the extent of the injury has not been officially disclosed beyond the walking boot visual, but fans will be watching closely to see if Green can recover in time for the Road to WrestleMania 42.
