AEW World Champion MJF recently appeared on Chris Van Vliet’s Insight podcast, where he opened up about the pivotal role Cody Rhodes played in his career. “Look, I’m not sitting here without Cody Rhodes. Cody Rhodes booked me for All In, which got me in front of Tony Khan, which got me signed to a contract,” MJF stated. He confirmed that he is still in touch with the current WWE superstar, adding, “Like Punk, I hope whatever he’s doing, he’s happy right now. I mean, you would think he would be.”
Speaking of CM Punk, MJF didn’t hold back on his former rival. When asked who won their verbal battles in AEW, Friedman was confident. “Match? No. I mean, watch the tape. You tell me who got the better of who verbally during that entire rivalry.” He also called out Punk’s perceived hypocrisy, noting, “The things that he said in my company do go against the things that he’s saying now.”
Despite his personal disdain—stating he “wouldn’t p*** on him if he was on fire”—MJF admitted that working with Punk made him better. “I learned the difference between good and great. That’s what I learned… I’m not going to sit here and pretend I didn’t learn from him.”
