Cody Rhodes is determined to wrap things up with Drew McIntyre. The two competitors have been at odds for several months on television. Rhodes has a chance to earn another big WrestleMania 42 spot at the upcoming premium live event.
He will step into the steel cage to compete in the Men’s Elimination Chamber match. As most WWE fans know, the winner of that specific match will challenge for a world title. They will face Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the biggest show of the year.
Speaking with ESPN’s First Take for a new interview, Rhodes noted his ultimate goal. He wants to “close the loop” with his long-time rival. He expressed his frustration with his current position on the card.
“I think you want to close the loop,” Rhodes explained to the hosts. He reflected on the differences between this year and his previous campaigns. “I think this year, more for me, I’m seeing all the WrestleMania signs everywhere and not being able to point at it when the years before, I had won the Royal Rumble or even last year going into it, I was the incumbent champion,” he stated.
Rhodes feels a sense of urgency to secure his spot in Las Vegas. “This year, it’s really up in the air for me and it’s tumultuous and you’re on that chase,” he admitted. The babyface star wants to recreate his signature moment for the audience.
“Just to be able to point at the WrestleMania signs everywhere and know I’m going to go in and do another WrestleMania main event, it means a lot to me,” he added. He then addressed his preferred opponent for the stadium show.
“Drew McIntyre, great, it doesn’t matter who it’s against but I’d love to close the loop on Drew because we’ve been fighting each other for quite some time,” Rhodes ended. The animosity between the two men has fueled some of the best television segments of the year.
McIntyre has constantly mocked Rhodes and interfered in his business. A championship match between them would serve as the perfect culmination of their bitter feud. However, Rhodes must first survive one of the most dangerous matches in the entire industry.
He will be locked inside a pod with five other hungry competitors. Everyone in the match shares the exact same goal of headlining the Las Vegas event. Rhodes will need to rely on his experience and resilience to outlast the competition.
Cody Rhodes will step into the steel structure at the Elimination Chamber premium live event on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the United Center in Chicago. He will battle LA Knight, Randy Orton, Je’Von Evans, Trick Williams, and Jey Uso inside the cage. The ultimate winner will advance to challenge Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42 in April.
