Injury Update On AEW Star

Penelope Ford’s highly anticipated return to the ring may be some time away, according to the head of the promotion. During a pre-AEW Collision video posted to social media, Tony Khan provided a disappointing update on her status. The news comes just as she was becoming a central part of a new faction.

Khan was explaining a new match made for the broadcast when he gave the update on Ford. He noted that the injury will unfortunately keep her away from the active roster for an extended period. The creative team has had to adjust their plans for the group in her absence.

“It looks like, unfortunately, (Ford) will be out with an injury maybe for weeks, but possibly even up to months,” Khan stated candidly. This timeline suggests that she will likely miss several upcoming marquee events, including the Revolution pay-per-view in Los Angeles.

According to our Bryan Alvarez, Ford suffered a legitimate ankle sprain during a recent match. She was competing alongside Megan Bayne against the AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions, Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron. The injury occurred during the February 25 episode of Dynamite in a very unfortunate moment.

Ford reportedly sustained the damage after performing a moonsault where she landed awkwardly on her feet. At the time of the incident, it was originally expected that she would be back in action very soon. However, subsequent medical evaluations revealed the injury was much more severe than first thought.

The finish of that specific match had to be changed on the fly due to Ford’s physical condition. The sudden shift saw Lena Kross interfere in the contest, resulting in a disqualification victory for the champions. Kross had previously made a surprise appearance at the Grand Slam Australia show to align with the group.

The loss of Ford is a significant blow to the momentum of her new alliance. The “Super Bad” star has been a cornerstone of the women’s division since the company’s inception. Her technical skill and character work were expected to lead the trio to several high-profile victories this spring.

While Ford focuses on her rehabilitation, the rest of the division is preparing for the stadium show in California. AEW Revolution is scheduled for March 15 at the Crypto.com Arena. The event will feature a Women’s World Championship match between Thekla and Kris Statlander. Management is hoping for a speedy recovery for Ford so she can return to the television broadcasts as soon as possible.
