The wrestling world is officially buzzing following the sudden departure of a Hall of Fame creative voice. During the latest episode of “The Coach & Bro Show,” Jonathan Coachman and Vince Russo discussed the possible factors that led Brian “Road Dogg” James to walk away from his position on the SmackDown brand. Both personalities pointed to a specific segment on the “WWE: Unreal” docuseries as a potential turning point.
Coachman suggested that James’ days were likely numbered after the broadcast showed him appearing hesitant to speak up during a creative meeting. He noted that the footage portrayed a lack of open communication between James and Triple H, which may have signaled a breakdown in their long-standing professional relationship.
“Ever since that segment on WWE Unreal, I think his days were numbered,” Coachman argued. “Because it showed that he really cared, and he got to a point where he couldn’t even say what he wanted to say because he felt like he was going to get yelled at by Triple H, who was on a Zoom link.”
Vince Russo, who worked closely with both men during the nineties, added his own perspective on the situation. He expressed shock that a friendship spanning over thirty years appeared to have reached such a point of internal tension. He claimed that you could clearly see James was unhappy with the creative environment in several different scenes throughout the season.
“I remember watching Unreal, and you could tell that Brian was afraid to speak up,” Russo stated. “So, you’ve known this dude for thirty years and you’re afraid to speak up, think about that. And it was not just one instance… you could tell that guy was unhappy.”
This news comes as the writing staff continues to finalize the card for WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium. James’ exit has left a significant void in the leadership of the blue brand, which is currently being filled by John Swikata. The WWE fans are watching closely to see if the creative direction of SmackDown shifts as the roster prepares for the massive two-night spectacle in the Nevada desert this April.
