A specific segment from a recent episode of NXT has officially been removed from all social media platforms following a significant amount of online backlash. During the March 3 episode on The CW, Ricky Saints performed a musical concert intended to mimic the famous “Hendry-style” performances of NXT Champion Joe Hendry. The segment was designed to build heat for their title match at Vengeance Day.
Fightful Select has provided an update on the situation, revealing that while the concert was not Saints’ idea, he did write the material himself. The report indicates that the “Megastar” attempted to write the segment in a way that would specifically avoid comparisons to The Rock. However, many viewers still felt the presentation felt too similar to the legendary “Rock Concert” segments from the past.
The negative reaction on social media prompted management to scrub the footage from their official accounts shortly after the broadcast. This is a rare move for the company, which usually leans into polarizing segments to drive engagement. It appears that the concerns regarding the derivative nature of the segment outweighed its value as a promotional tool for the championship rivalry.
Despite the digital removal, the storyline between Saints and Hendry continued as planned heading into the premium live event. The physical confrontation in the ring was the primary focus for the audience in attendance. Saints has often been praised for his promo ability, and the creative team remains high on his potential as a top heel for the brand.
