Tyra Mae Steele Release Rumors Officially Debunked

The digital wrestling community was briefly sent into a frenzy this week following a series of shocking social media posts from a rising developmental star. Taking to X, WWE NXT/EVOLVE standout Tyra Mae Steele shared a narrative that suggested she had been released from her contract after winning gold at a world amateur wrestling tournament behind the company’s back.

“On a weekend off working for WWE, I went back to Olympic wrestling, won gold at Worlds, prize purse was $350,000…. Tried to go back to WWE that Monday. They moved me up to Raw, just to tell me they had to let me go bc I went behind their back…. So was this a nightmare or a dream,” Steele wrote. The post was quickly picked up by multiple news outlets, leading many to believe a major roster departure had occurred.

However, it appears the wrestling world collectively misread the context of the message. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select quickly cleared up the confusion, confirming that Steele has not been released. He clarified that the athlete was literally tweeting about the contents of a vivid dream she had experienced during her time off. The “release” was purely fictional and restricted to her subconscious mind.

Cory Hays of Bodyslam+ also backed up the report, stating definitively: “This was just a dream. Tyra Mae Steele has not been released.” The clarification was a relief to the WWE fans who have been following her impressive progress at the Performance Center. Steele remains one of the top prospects in the developmental system, known for her world-class athletic background and rapid adaptation to the pro wrestling style.

Steele is officially expected to remain a primary focus of the NXT brand as they prepare for the fallout of WrestleMania 42. While she may not be winning $350,000 prizes in real-world tournaments just yet, her future in the industry remains incredibly bright. Management is reportedly very happy with her development in Orlando, and she is expected to play a significant role in the upcoming spring tapings at the Capitol Wrestling Center.
