Speaking with The Takedown on Sports Illustrated, Austin singled out Green as an example of a performer who succeeds by taking risks and connecting with the crowd on an emotional level. “I think that Chelsea Green does that a lot of time. She’s pretty fearless out there. On a creative note, she’ll go for it, and it’s done well for her.” Austin placed that quality in the context of the grind every wrestler goes through early in their career, noting that hunger is what forces performers to get good quickly.
Austin’s comments on Owens carried a more personal tone. Owens holds the distinction of being the last person to face Austin in a wrestling match, as The Texas Rattlesnake came out of retirement to face him at WrestleMania 38 in 2022 — a moment that appears unlikely to be topped given Austin’s current status. Austin described reaching out to Owens a couple of months ago to check on his recovery from neck surgery. “I care about the guy. Love the guy. He’s a Hall of Fame talent,” Austin said. “It’s a rough business, right. No matter what style you work, you’re going to take a bump. And even the most simple bump can be the devastating bump.”
There is no confirmed timeline yet for Owens’ return to the ring, but he will next be seen on WWE: LFG (Legends & Future Greats), where he is slated to serve as one of the coaches on the new season premiering on A&E on April 26.
