Tommy Dreamer enjoyed Roman Reigns’ promo on Raw — but he couldn’t let one detail slide. On Busted Open After Dark, the former WWE Hardcore Champion flagged what he called a textbook promo mistake after Reigns mocked CM Punk’s age during their WrestleMania 42 build segment.
“Promo class 101 — when you’re insulting your opponent, the biggest thing you’re never supposed to do is call your opponent old,” Dreamer said. “You know why? Because when you get punched in your face and you get dropped, the ‘old’ guy just dropped you.” He pointed out the inherent contradiction of a WrestleMania main eventer framing the match around his opponent’s age. “If you’re saying somebody is old, and you’re in the main event of WrestleMania, you’re going toe-to-toe and you can’t beat an old guy.”
Dreamer Praised Reigns’ Overall Promo Before Flagging the Age Insult
Dreamer was quick to note his overall enjoyment of the segment, crediting Reigns’ delivery on everything else. “Everything he said before that was wonderful — ‘I’m faster than you, I’m better looking than you, I’m everything you’re not.'” After Raw went off the air, Reigns continued delivering to the San Antonio crowd, promising that Punk will acknowledge him at WrestleMania and vowing to remind the world who runs the company in the main event.
