Toni Storm will not be competing on tonight’s AEW Dynamite. The AEW Women’s World Champion was ruled out of her scheduled No Holds Barred match against Marina Shafir at the top of Wednesday’s broadcast, with the injury stemming from her Revolution appearance this past Sunday.
Storm competed in a singles match against Shafir at Revolution, but it was the post-match chaos that may have caused the issue. When Ronda Rousey appeared and Storm returned to the ring for a face-to-face confrontation, Shafir landed a shot on Storm during the confrontation — something commentator Excalibur described as a “sucker punch,” language that may factor into the ongoing storyline. The extent of Storm’s injury has not been disclosed, and her return timeline is currently unknown.
Mina Shirakawa Steps Into Storm’s Spot Against Shafir on Dynamite
With Storm unable to compete, her tag team partner Mina Shirakawa will take her place against Shafir in the No Holds Barred match. The two have history — Shafir defeated Shirakawa in a singles match this past December — but they have also crossed paths in the first-ever women’s Blood & Guts match last November and in the inaugural Women’s Tag Team title tournament, giving the replacement match a meaningful backdrop.
