Plans for a Royce Keys and Jelly Roll tag team match at WrestleMania 42 have apparently been shelved. Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that whatever WWE has in store for Jelly Roll at WrestleMania, it does not involve the former Powerhouse Hobbs. “I had asked about the story because there was a story about Royce Keys, and I was told that it’s not Royce Keys, for whatever that’s worth,” Meltzer said.
The pairing had been floated in a Bodyslam report that suggested WWE had internally discussed the two teaming at Mania, with their shared stories of personal hardship forming the narrative backbone. That concept has now been contradicted by Meltzer’s reporting.
Keys Has Been Working Dark Matches Ahead of His Main Roster Debut
Royce Keys signed with WWE shortly after his AEW contract expired and made his WWE debut in the Royal Rumble, entering at number 14 and lasting just under 10 minutes before being eliminated by The Vision. He has not appeared on Raw or SmackDown television since, but has been regularly working dark matches ahead of SmackDown tapings, picking up wins over Chris Sabin, Alex Shelley, Nathan Frazer, and Rey Fenix. WWE was reportedly adamant about placing him directly on the main roster rather than routing him through NXT. His TV debut timeline remains unannounced.
