Mike Johnson of PWInsider is putting a firm lid on speculation surrounding Ronda Rousey’s AEW future. According to Johnson, Rousey’s appearance at Revolution was a one-off and she is not expected back in AEW anytime soon.
Johnson explained that the stars simply aligned for the moment — Revolution was held in Los Angeles, local to Rousey, and in the same market as her upcoming MMA fight against Gina Carano on May 16. Her appearance was primarily designed to promote that return and to show up in support of her longtime friend and training partner Marina Shafir.
“Since Revolution was local for Rousey, and in the same market as her fight against Gina Carano, it was just a moment where it made sense for all involved since all the constellations were aligned,” Johnson noted. The report aligns with previous updates from Fightful Select, which also indicated Rousey had not signed with AEW and that no follow-up creative plans had been discussed. For now, the Revolution appearance appears to have served its purpose — generating headlines ahead of her MMA comeback — with no indication that a wrestling storyline is next.
