Michael Cole Admits He Regrets His WrestleMania 37 Commentary Error

Michael Cole has opened up about the commentary mistake that fans have never let him forget — his incorrect call at the finish of the historic WrestleMania 37 main event between Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks. Speaking on The Sal Licata Show, WWE‘s lead play-by-play voice admitted the error was one of his most significant regrets and confirmed he personally apologized to both women afterward.

“I had a massive screw-up in the WrestleMania where Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair headlined. The first time two African-American women had headlined the main event at WrestleMania, and I screwed up at the finish. I was embarrassed by it. I apologized to both of the women afterward. They understand that things happen. The fans have never to this day let me forget about it. But it is something I regretted. I’d love to have it back if I could,” Cole said.

Michael Cole Says Live Television Means Mistakes Are Inevitable Despite Best Intentions

Cole put the error in broader context, acknowledging that live broadcasting at the pace WWE demands means perfection is simply not achievable. “Every day, every show something happens. This is live television. We’re saying a million words a night. You’re always going to mess up. I want to throw a perfect game, but how many perfect games have there been in the history of Major League Baseball?” He also expressed sympathy for other broadcasters who face similar criticism, specifically naming Joe Buck and Tony Romo as two of the best in sports broadcasting who are constantly subjected to unfair scrutiny from fans who believe they could do better.
