Backstage Update On Departure Of Former TNA World Champion

Steve Maclin had hoped to keep his TNA departure quiet, but TNA issued a press release announcing his release without consulting him or Myla Grace beforehand, per Fightful Select.

“We’re told Maclin had hoped to keep the word of the departure quiet, but TNA issued a press release announcing it. They rarely do that, and didn’t consult Myla Grace or Maclin ahead of the decision,” Fightful wrote.

Fightful also noted Maclin had been publicly outspoken about TNA’s creative direction and did not feel it had improved following the company’s move to AMC earlier this year. Pay scale was also an issue internally, though Fightful noted the majority of TNA talent are no longer on full-time deals even after the network change. Both Maclin and Grace are expected to have interest from outside companies.

Maclin had re-signed with TNA earlier this year after an angle in which he was fired in storyline for grabbing a Feast or Fired briefcase. He turned heel, attacked Mike Santana, and was eventually rehired in storyline by Director of Authority Santino Marella and granted a title shot — which ended abruptly due to an in-ring injury.
