Orange Cassidy On Being Called A Comedy Wrestler: ‘I Don’t Really Disagree’

Orange Cassidy has said he does not disagree with being called a comedy wrestler, describing his approach as an attempt to blend as many different styles as possible and keep whatever works.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Cassidy explained his philosophy.

“When people refer to me as a comedy wrestler, I’m doing comedy wrestling. I don’t really disagree because that is an element I would like to use. I was fortunate enough to be trained around and wrestled with a lot of different people with a lot of different styles. And I think to me that is where I find my most success is that I will try to incorporate as much of every style of professional wrestling that I can into my matches. It’s a risk sometimes, you know. You don’t know if it’s going to work or not, but you have to try, and I don’t care, so I’ll just try. And I keep the stuff that works and ditch the stuff that doesn’t.”

On the origins of his hands-in-pockets spot, Cassidy said it came from a match with Marko Stunt and took over a decade of trial and error to find.

“I’ve spent a lot of time in professional wrestling, like over a decade it took me to figure out what I needed to do to connect with people and stuff. And you never know what’s going to work and you just got to try to just keep at it and be persistent. It’s one of those things where I’m very grateful I had the opportunity to try this stuff out. I had nothing to lose. So I was just trying anything. That is like a thing I never thought would happen where people would be like, oh yeah, you got to put those hands in your pockets. But that to me is what is a great professional wrestler. Something that stands out that people can identify with.”

Cassidy is currently one third of the AEW World Trios Champions alongside Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong as part of The Conglomeration.
