As the WWE Universe eagerly awaits the return of Brock Lesnar to Monday Night Raw on February 23, speculation regarding his opponent for WrestleMania 42 has reached a fever pitch. While fans were buzzing over a potential showdown with rising powerhouse Oba Femi following their interaction at the Royal Rumble, a new report suggests that the company may have had a different direction in mind entirely. According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, internal documents from late January listed LA Knight as The Beast’s opponent for the two-night event in Las Vegas.
Dave Meltzer reported that as of late January, “Brock Lesnar vs. LA Knight was listed internally for WWE WrestleMania 42.” This revelation adds a fascinating layer of complexity to the booking situation, as the on-screen narrative seemed to point elsewhere. Meltzer noted that while the internal list featured Knight, the Royal Rumble itself told a different story. “In the Rumble, nothing memorable was done in that direction, while the Lesnar-Femi face-off was set up to get a big reaction and actually got the biggest reaction of the show, except for Brie Bella,” Meltzer wrote. The discrepancy between the written plan and the physical execution at the Rumble has left insiders and fans alike questioning which path the creative team will ultimately choose.
The situation regarding Oba Femi remains fluid. Following the Rumble, reports indicated that a match between the two behemoths was “not a sure thing yet,” despite the undeniable crowd response. BodySlam had previously reported that “Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar has reportedly been discussed for WrestleMania 42,” aligning with the visual evidence presented in Saudi Arabia. However, the lack of follow-up interaction and the existence of the LA Knight listing suggests that WWE officials are weighing their options carefully. A match with Knight would provide a clash of personalities between the “Megastar” and the “Beast,” while a bout with Femi would offer a traditional “monster vs. monster” spectacle reminiscent of Lesnar’s past battles with giants like Omos or Braun Strowman.
All eyes will now turn to the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on February 23, where Lesnar is scheduled to make his first appearance on the red brand since November. Meltzer states that “the Brock Lesnar direction for RAW is likely to be teased” on this show. Whether he targets the charismatic LA Knight or the imposing Oba Femi, the segment in Atlanta is expected to provide the definitive answer that will shape one of the marquee matches for April.
WrestleMania 42 takes place on April 18 and 19, 2026, live from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event marks the second consecutive year the “Grandest Stage of Them All” will emanate from Sin City, following the massive success of WrestleMania 41. With the company looking to stack the card for another two-night sellout, the final decision on Lesnar’s opponent will be a critical piece of the puzzle.
