Mick Foley could be headed to AEW after letting his WWE Legends deal expire, with sources indicating to The Takedown on SI that AEW has expressed real interest in working with him this year.
The capacity of any potential involvement is not known, and it has not been confirmed whether AEW would pursue a full signing or a one-off appearance. The extent of any conversation between the parties beyond an initial inquiry is also unknown.
AEW is currently building toward Double or Nothing in Flushing, NY, roughly an hour from where Foley grew up on Long Island. MJF, another Long Island product, headlines the show against Darby Allin in a title versus hair match.
Foley has been outspoken about his reasons for stepping away from WWE. The Hall of Famer publicly criticized WWE and TKO’s dealings with the Trump administration following comments about the death of actor Rob Reiner, and said he planned to let his Legends deal expire in June. WWE Legends contracts do not prevent talent from working elsewhere directly, but carry restrictions on royalties, merchandising, and likeness use.
Foley has not wrestled since 2012. He served as WWE Raw general manager from 2016 to 2017 and made his last WWE on-camera appearance in 2023 at NXT Deadline. He recently appeared in The Sandman’s retirement match for GCW during WrestleMania week in Las Vegas.
