Paul Wight has re-signed with AEW after his previous contract came up earlier this year, per a report from Fightful Select. The length of the new deal is not known, but the belief internally is that he is firmly under contract.
Wight, 54, joined AEW in 2021 and has worked in backstage, commentary, and on-screen roles for the promotion since. His last match was on the 2024 Jericho Cruise, where he teamed with Chris Jericho and Mike Bailey against Kyle Fletcher, Powerhouse Hobbs and Lance Archer.
He has previously stated that he intends to spend the final years of his career in AEW, and has not ruled out a return to the ring. Speaking with Virgin Radio UK earlier this month, Wight described his current role when asked if he would wrestle again.
“I don’t have to do much at this stage of the game. I’m not competing for championships, I’m not pulling the wagon, working every week. I have a great opportunity with All Elite Wrestling which was very important to me — to be able to help mentor some of the younger talent when they want it, tell them some stories to help them avoid some troubles in life, do the commentating where I can help explain what they’re doing and help develop their characters, and then get in the ring. There are things that I can do in the ring working with them that I know will help them.”
He has also named Kenny Omega and Darby Allin as dream opponents for any future in-ring return.
