Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has revealed he had a testicular cancer scare earlier this year, disclosing the experience in a feature for Esquire tied to the promotion of his upcoming film Jumanji: Open World.
Johnson felt a lump on one of his testicles and had it checked by a doctor, who told him it was probably epididymitis — inflammation of a tube at the back of the testicle — but that cancer could not be ruled out before further testing. Before he could get confirmation, Johnson had to appear at a press event for the film.
“I didn’t even tell Lauren. I didn’t want to worry her before I knew if it was anything to even worry about. By the way: I’m fine. But I didn’t know that then, and the thing was really painful. So I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing — and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches.”
The diagnosis was confirmed as epididymitis and not cancer. Johnson is a member of the TKO Group board of directors, the parent company of WWE and UFC.
