Paul Heyman’s influence inside WWE extends well beyond what fans see on screen. According to Fightful Select‘s Sean Ross Sapp, Heyman “contributes quite a bit” to the creative side of WWE — particularly when it comes to the talent he works alongside on television, where he currently portrays the manager and counsel for The Vision on Raw.
Sapp also noted that if Heyman takes a personal interest in a talent, he will go out of his way to help them. However, Heyman himself has acknowledged a complication that comes with that generosity — he reportedly warned Sapp that his backing of certain performers has sometimes worked against them, with others in the company spitefully rejecting anyone Heyman championed. Despite that dynamic, Heyman is described as generous to any talent who seeks his advice.
Heyman Was Removed as Raw Executive Director in 2020 Before Becoming Roman Reigns’ Wise Man
Heyman’s relationship with WWE’s creative process has evolved significantly over the years. In June 2019, he was named Executive Director of Monday Night Raw to oversee the show’s creative direction. About a year later, WWE consolidated its creative teams under Bruce Prichard, with the company stating at the time that “Heyman will concentrate on his role as an in-ring performer.” He remained with WWE as an on-air character, going on to become The Wise Man for Roman Reigns and The Bloodline before transitioning to his current role with The Vision.
