Santos Escobar is heading into surgery. According to Fightful Select, Escobar sustained a torn tricep injury that originally occurred during an NXT house show tour match against Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. over Royal Rumble weekend — a couple of months ago. The injury was initially feared to be something other than a tricep tear, but that diagnosis has now been confirmed. Surgery is scheduled for Thursday, March 19.
Despite the injury, Escobar competed in the AAA Rey de Reyes tournament final just days ago, where the condition reportedly worsened during the match. Dr. Wagner Jr. also interfered in that bout, causing Escobar to lose — an extension of the feud that began with the original injury.
Escobar-Wagner Feud Expected to Be Shelved Following Surgery
With surgery now confirmed, the feud between Escobar and Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. is expected to be put on hold. Escobar had been working through the injury for weeks, and the Rey de Reyes appearance appears to have been his last action before going under the knife. His recovery timeline has not yet been disclosed. This comes amid separate reports that Escobar remains under WWE contract despite a false alumni page story that circulated last week.
