John Cena retired from in-ring competition in December after losing to GUNTHER at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event — but his connection to WWE isn’t over. Speaking at MEGACon Orlando, Cena revealed he is actively working on securing a new role within the company and expressed genuine excitement about where things could be heading.
“I am working diligently to try to figure out my next path as a contributing, useful member of WWE,” Cena said. “I think I might crack the code, and I think we have something. And if the stars align and everybody signs off, I will be a whole lot more integrated in the system, and I’m very excited about the road ahead. I’ll just cross my fingers that it works.”
Cena Left the Door Open for Non-Wrestling WWE Roles at His Retirement
Cena has been deliberate in keeping WWE as part of his future since stepping away from the ring. While the details of what his new role might entail were not disclosed, the language he used — more integrated in the system — suggests something beyond occasional appearances. He vowed at his retirement that his in-ring days were truly behind him, but made clear he had no intention of walking away from the company entirely. His MEGACon comments suggest those conversations are well underway
