Braun Strowman is done holding back. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on March 24, the former Universal Champion opened up about what life was really like behind the scenes during his 12 years in WWE — and the contrast with where he is now couldn’t be starker.
Strowman was careful to lead with appreciation before letting the criticism land. “I was very blessed with what I got to do,” he said, acknowledging the opportunities WWE gave him. But he made it clear that creative freedom was never part of the deal. “My hands were tied creatively for the last 12 years in WWE — and while that’s not a bad thing — at the end of the day, I was playing a character on a show.”

What followed was the most direct line in the interview. “Sometimes the script sucked. I mean, no offense, I hated it, but I had to go in there and make the best of it because that was my job.” Strowman contrasted that experience with his current work on Everything on the Menu, where his creative input is welcomed rather than dismissed. “Now with this opportunity, my creative input is welcomed — it’s not dismissed.” Released by WWE in May 2025, Strowman’s comments draw a clear line between his decade-plus as a top monster heel and what he’s building now on his own terms.
