Corey Graves stepped away from in-ring competition years ago due to concussion-related issues, but the door on a potential return is not fully closed. Speaking to TV Insider, the WWE commentator confirmed that he has already received medical clearance in recent years — meaning a return to competition is physically possible, even if it’s not something he’s actively chasing right now.
“I got medically cleared a couple of years ago. I started to get back in shape. A lot of things changed within the company as far as everything. So, I don’t foresee that happening in the foreseeable future if at all,” Graves said. The clearance is significant given the nature of his original retirement, which was forced by the cumulative neurological damage that made continuing to compete unsafe at the time.
Corey Graves Says the Right WWE or AAA Opportunity Could Bring Him Back to the Ring
While Graves was candid about the fact that staying in ring shape requires a level of commitment he’s not currently motivated to pursue — “I have the luxury of wearing a suit on TV. I like not watching what I eat” — he stopped well short of ruling out a return entirely. “Never say never. I think if the right opportunity presented itself, whether that be in WWE or AAA, I would probably jump at the chance. At the same time, it’s not something I’m actively pursuing at the moment.”
Recent moments that put Graves in physical proximity to the action — including taking bumps from Brock Lesnar — have kept the conversation alive among fans wondering if a comeback could materialise. With medical clearance already secured and a connection to both WWE and AAA programming, the ingredients for a return exist. Whether the right storyline or moment eventually materialises remains to be seen, but Graves has made it clear he wouldn’t say no if something compelling came along.
