The “New Era” of Friday Night SmackDown is officially underway, and the blue brand has bolstered its ranks with two of NXT’s brightest stars. Following their in-ring debuts on the January 9 episode, WWE.com has officially updated its roster page to list Trick Williams and Jordynne Grace as full-time SmackDown superstars. This move cements the recent “influx” of talent migrating from the developmental system to the main stage.
Successful Debuts for the New Recruits
Both stars made immediate impacts during their first official nights on the job. Jordynne Grace, a powerhouse in the women’s division, secured a victory over Alba Fyre in singles action. Following the bout, Grace took to social media to share a heartfelt message about the milestone, signaling she is ready to climb the ranks of the women’s division.
Trick Williams, who had appeared sporadically on the main roster previously, made his permanent transition a successful one by defeating former luchador standout Rey Fenix. However, Williams has no time to rest on his laurels. He has been immediately thrust into the main event picture.
London Calling for a Title Shot
The stakes for Williams are exceptionally high heading into tomorrow night’s SmackDown taping at the OVO Arena Wembley in London. He is one of eight superstars selected to compete for a future WWE Championship opportunity. Williams is scheduled to face the returning Matt Cardona in a high-pressure qualifying match. The winner will advance to a Fatal 4-Way match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 24, where a shot at Drew McIntyre and the Undisputed WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble will be on the line.
