Although 2K Games and WWE have yet to officially pull the curtain back on the next installment of their video game franchise, major details have begun to leak regarding the project. Following the critical and commercial success of WWE 2K25, expectations are high for the follow-up, and a new report suggests the company is leaning heavily into the star power of the “Second City Saint.” According to a January 15, 2026 report from Insider Gaming, WWE 2K26 is currently scheduled for a March 2026 release, and its centerpiece attraction will be a Showcase Mode dedicated to the tumultuous and legendary career of CM Punk.
Three Distinct Chapters of Punk
The report outlines a significant evolution in the Showcase Mode formula. Unlike previous iterations that focused strictly on historical recreation—such as the modes dedicated to John Cena or Rey Mysterio—Punk’s showcase will reportedly be more experimental. Sources indicate the mode will be fully narrated by Punk himself and divided into three unique sections.
The first section will adhere to the traditional format, allowing players to relive the most iconic matches of Punk’s initial WWE run, likely covering his rise to the WWE Championship and the “Summer of Punk.” However, the second section is generating the most buzz: a “What If?” timeline. This segment will explore alternate history scenarios, asking what would have happened had Punk never walked out of the company in 2014. The third and final section will dive into fantasy booking, featuring “dream matches” that never occurred in reality, giving fans the chance to pit Punk against opponents he missed during his time away from the ring.
Commercials Filmed and Reveal Date Set
Corroborating the hype, Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer reported on January 14 that the promotional machine is already in motion. WWE reportedly filmed the live-action reveal commercial for WWE 2K26 in secret back in December. While no official trailer has been released to the public, industry insiders expect the first look to drop imminently.
Current speculation points to the Royal Rumble as the venue for the game’s debut trailer. This year’s event is a historic outlier, taking place in Saudi Arabia on January 31. With the eyes of the global wrestling world fixed on the Kingdom for the start of the Road to WrestleMania, it presents the perfect stage to unveil a game centered around one of the industry’s most polarizing figures. If the reports hold true, WWE 2K26 could offer the most creative narrative experience in the franchise’s history.
