In professional wrestling, when a superstar is announced as “sick” on television, fans often assume it is a cover for a contract dispute or a hidden injury. However, regarding Charlotte Flair’s recent absence from SmackDown, the on-screen explanation was entirely truthful. A new report has confirmed that “The Queen” was dealing with a legitimate illness that forced WWE creative to rewrite the show on short notice.
A Legitimate Illness
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that Flair’s condition was severe enough to keep her off the broadcast, necessitating a change in plans for the blue brand.
“Flair missed Smackdown this week and was said on television to be sick. That was legit. It was described to us as she was very ill this past week which led to a change in television.”
Back On The Road
Fortunately, the illness appears to have been a short-term issue. The report confirmed that the 14-time Women’s World Champion has already recovered and rejoined the roster for live events.
“She did return to the tour on 1/15.”
With Flair back on the road, she is expected to slot right back into her top spot on SmackDown tonight in London. Her presence will be vital as the brand builds toward the Royal Rumble, where she will undoubtedly be one of the favorites to win and punch her ticket to another main event at WrestleMania 42.
