Liv Morgan has been waiting a full year for this SummerSlam — and the memory of missing it last time makes the August 1 and 2 event in Minnesota feel especially significant. Speaking to Fox News Digital while promoting SummerSlam 2026, Morgan opened up about how devastating it was to miss the 2025 edition of the event in her home state of New Jersey while recovering from shoulder surgery.
“Honestly, I cannot even express to you how upset and disappointing it was to miss SummerSlam in my hometown. But yeah, I was very excited to show up at SummerSlam in pretty much my hometown. Unfortunately, I missed out. So, this year, I’m going to more than make up for it,” Morgan said.
She also spoke to Headliner Chicago about what SummerSlam represents and why everything after WrestleMania feels new and unpredictable. “SummerSlam, August 1st and 2nd in Minnesota — it’s one of our biggest events all year. It’s the biggest party of the summer. It’s like you have to be there or be square. I have no idea what’s going on other than that I am going to show up and leave the Women’s World Champion. But it’s going to be iconic and exciting, and you can always expect the unexpected, especially after WrestleMania. WrestleMania is kind of like wrestling New Year to me, so everything is new and fresh and messy and chaotic, which we’re going to see on this road to SummerSlam.”
Liv Morgan Won the Women’s World Championship at WrestleMania 42 With Help From the Judgment Day
Morgan captured the WWE Women’s World Championship at WrestleMania 42 Night One in Las Vegas, defeating Stephanie Vaquer with assistance from Judgment Day allies Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez. Vaquer is currently sidelined with a second-degree AC sprain with SummerSlam mentioned as a possible return target, though nothing is confirmed. Morgan returned to WWE programming at Survivor Series 2025 following the shoulder surgery that cost her SummerSlam last year — making her road to championship gold and a SummerSlam headlining position a full circle story that has been building for nearly a year.
