Will Ospreay has made clear he would welcome the chance to wrestle the New Day if Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods find their way to AEW following their WWE departures. Speaking to Forbes in a new interview, Ospreay was asked directly about the possibility and gave an enthusiastic answer that reflected genuine admiration for both performers.
“I mean, I would love it. I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about them. I loved watching Kofi Kingston win the WWE Championship and seeing what that meant to so many people. I think that’s powerful stuff. I’ve only really spoken with Xavier Woods on Twitter, and I think it’s mostly been about costumes more than anything. He’s messaged me quite a lot about how he loves my jackets. Everybody’s said they’re wonderful human beings, so if the avenues are there, of course I’d love to wrestle them,” Ospreay said.
The New Day Are Subject to 90-Day Non-Competes After Leaving WWE With AEW Already Interested
Kingston and Xavier Woods left WWE after rejecting the company’s request to restructure their contracts as part of TKO’s wider payroll reduction exercise. Both are subject to 90-day non-compete clauses before they can appear elsewhere. AEW has already been reported as interested in signing the duo, with multiple performers within the promotion internally pushing for the New Day to be brought in when they become available. Ospreay’s comments add another high-profile AEW voice to the growing enthusiasm around the potential signing.
