Santos Escobar has unfinished business in Mexico. In 2025, WWE reportedly had major plans for Escobar to capture the AAA Mega Championship from El Hijo del Vikingo, but those plans evaporated when his contract expired in early October. Although WWE quickly re-signed him to a lucrative new deal to keep him from leaving long-term, his momentum in AAA seemed lost. That changed in an instant during AAA’s recent debut broadcast on Fox.
A Masked Attack
AAA Latin American Champion El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. was in the ring soliciting a challenger when a mysterious figure in an El Hijo del Fantasma-style mask interrupted him. After whispering a message to the champion, the intruder leveled him with a vicious blow. The reveal shocked the live crowd: it was Santos Escobar.
“After laying out the champion, the intruder removed his mask to reveal that he was Santos Escobar. He then grabbed the AAA Latin American Championship belt and stared at Wagner Jr. before leaving the ring, officially putting himself on notice as a threat to the title and the entire roster.”
By attacking the champion and stealing the spotlight on AAA’s biggest new platform, Escobar has made it clear that his new WWE contract won’t stop him from conquering the lucha libre world.
