With Matt Cardona officially back in the WWE fold under his real name, his wife Chelsea Green is already brainstorming ways to capitalize on their real-life chemistry. During a recent appearance on the “SHAK Wrestling” podcast, the former Women’s Tag Team Champion revealed that she would welcome the chance to be paired with Cardona on-screen, pitching a dynamic that harkens back to the edgier days of the Attitude Era.
Channeling Edge and Lita
Green, who is currently managing Ethan Page as part of a “Triple Ah-Ah-Ah Mixed Tag Team” act, admitted she often thinks about working with her husband. She believes their dynamic could translate into an over-the-top, “nasty” power couple that fans love to hate.
“I would love if Matt and I were together to really bring back the nasty Attitude Era couple. Like, just dirty and like, ‘Ew… They’re kind of cool, but why are they making out like that?’ You know what I mean? Just like, Lita and Edge stuff like that… One thing that fans love is a storyline that’s brought back to life.”
Praise for Cardona’s Return
Green also heaped praise on Cardona for successfully reinventing himself on the independent scene before his return. She noted that shedding the “Zack Ryder” persona was crucial for him to be taken seriously as a star.
“It felt like, ‘Oh, you did it. You changed the entire world’s perception on you… You shed this character that you had that was fun and goofy while it lasted but maybe not as serious… And you elevated yourself and now you are –‘ I mean, he looks like a star. He carries himself like a star. Matt Cardona is a star.”
