Following the emotional conclusion to the Royal Rumble, where AJ Styles was forced to retire after losing to Gunther, the wrestling world is already looking ahead to what comes next for “The Phenomenal One.” During the post-show press conference, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque addressed Styles’ future, specifically responding to a question from Big E about the possibility of Styles working for the company in a non-wrestling capacity.
Triple H Hopes Styles Will Follow A “Shawn Michaels Path” In NXT
“We’ve had a lot of conversations… AJ is one of those people that absolutely wants to give back be a part of this business,” Levesque revealed. He clarified that while the retirement came earlier in the year than they initially expected, Styles had made it clear that he was ready to step away. “When your heart goes, no matter how good you are… it’s time. Before you get hurt, before you get told you’re not allowed to do this anymore.”
Levesque drew a direct comparison to another legend who transitioned successfully to a backstage role. “I think when you see somebody like what Shawn Michaels is doing in NXT, I think that’s a path and a career for AJ Styles beyond this period that he’s in.” While Levesque noted that “right now… is not the time to talk about it” out of respect for the raw emotion of the night, the door seems wide open for Styles to mold the next generation of superstars.
