CM Punk is well aware of what the internet writes about him—and his rivals.
In a surprising crossover between wrestling and romance novel culture, Punk was asked by Sirius XM Radio about the book Heated Rivalry, which features two hockey rivals who maintain a secret romance off the ice. When asked if WWE could ever adapt such a trope, Punk didn’t shy away from the idea.
“I feel like there’s a huge untapped market, there’s fan fiction out there. I’m in a lot of it,” Punk admitted. “I think Heated Rivalry did so well and touched on taboo subjects. I think we could run that in WWE.”
The “Best in the World” then poked fun at the intense obsessions his on-screen enemies seem to have with him, jokingly framing their hatred as something else entirely.
“Look at all the guys in love with me; Seth [Rollins], Roman [Reigns], it’s kind of endless.”
While a literal romance storyline is unlikely, Punk’s acknowledgment of the “shipping” culture and the underlying tension in his feuds proves once again that he always has his finger on the pulse of the fanbase.
