CM Punk Addresses Kevin Nash’s Criticism Regarding His Ring Gear

CM Punk is no stranger to criticism, but a recent critique from WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash left the “Best in the World” scratching his head. Nash recently made headlines by criticizing Punk for wearing a t-shirt while wrestling, a comment that sparked a minor controversy online. In response, Punk leaned into the joke during a recent live event match against Bronson Reed, wearing not one, but two shirts to the ring. In a new interview with ComingSoon.net, the World Heavyweight Champion clarified his intentions behind the stunt and addressed Nash’s comments directly.

“I Did That To Make People I Was In The Ring With Laugh”

Punk explained that while the “genesis” of the gag was rooted in Nash’s comments, his primary goal wasn’t to start a feud, but to entertain his coworkers. He admitted he was confused by the criticism in the first place, as he typically does not wrestle in a shirt during televised matches.

“You know what, I can say it had nothing to do with him but obviously the genesis of the story is him saying that I wrestle in a shirt and I never wrestle in a shirt. I didn’t really understand what the criticism was, but thanks. You’re right. I did that to make people I was in the ring with laugh because when I’m on a house show, to me, that’s what it’s about.”

The Atmosphere of House Shows

Punk went on to describe his philosophy regarding non-televised live events. For him, the “house show” loop is about camaraderie and levity, serving as a way to keep morale high while the roster is away from their families.

“It’s about having fun. If the fans see us having fun, they’re having fun. I like to keep it light, I like to make people laugh when I’m on the road and I’m away from my wife and people are away from their families. That’s our family while we’re on the road and I’m kind of the jokey guy. I’m gonna have fun on a house show.”

Belfast Brawl Awaits

While Punk enjoys keeping things light on the house show circuit, business is about to pick up significantly on television. Following his successful title defense against Bron Breakker to start the year, Punk is currently preparing for a major challenge overseas. Next Monday, Raw emanates from Belfast, Northern Ireland, where Punk will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor. With the “Prince” returning to his home turf, the atmosphere is expected to be anything but a laughing matter for the champion.
