Chelsea Green Slams Critics Of Controversial Netflix Show: “The Proof Is In The Pudding”

The partnership between WWE and Netflix continues to push boundaries, but not everyone is happy about the direction. The docu-series WWE Unreal faced massive criticism during its first season for exposing the inner workings of the business, often breaking kayfabe in ways that upset wrestling traditionalists. With Season 2 set to release on January 20, 2026, the backlash has reignited. However, WWE Superstar Chelsea Green has come to the show’s defense, arguing that transparency is necessary for the industry’s survival in mainstream entertainment.

“The Longest Soap Opera Known To Mankind”

In a recent interview with Denise Salcedo, Green addressed the criticism head-on. She argued that wrestling essentially functions as a soap opera, and modern audiences crave the “behind-the-scenes” access that reality TV provides. She cited the success of Total Divas as proof that pulling back the curtain engages fans rather than driving them away.

“I just feel like wrestling is basically the longest soap opera known to mankind. Why would you not want to peel back the curtain and watch how the longest episodic television show is made? I don’t understand… Total Divas was one of the best shows on E! So, the proof is in the pudding, we do like when the curtain is pulled back, we do like an inside look.”

Bridging The Gap To Hollywood

Green went a step further, suggesting that shows like Unreal are essential for wrestling to stop being the “black sheep” of the entertainment world. She expressed frustration that wrestlers are often excluded from major sports awards like the ESPYs or Hollywood unions like SAG, and believes that showcasing the reality of the business validates their work.

“I personally think that moments like Unreal are what are going to push this industry forward and branch out into sports and into Hollywood in ways that we didn’t know it could. And also, we’re going to get new fans, it’s on Netflix, hello, new fans are going to watch this.”

Controversial Topics In Season 2

The upcoming season promises to be even more controversial than the first. It is set to cover sensitive topics such as Seth Rollins’ “fake injury” angle from last year, R-Truth’s chaotic exit and return, and the backstage planning leading up to SummerSlam 2025. By revealing the scripted nature of these storylines, WWE Unreal risks further alienating purists, even as it likely attracts the binge-watching Netflix demographic Green is targeting.
