Nikki Bella Admits Confusion Over Neutral Creative Direction Following Return

The “Fearless” Hall of Famer is officially addressing the creative inconsistencies surrounding her recent television character. After a high-profile return at the 2026 Royal Rumble and a subsequent reunion with Brie Bella, Nikki found herself positioned as a fan-favorite despite previously engaging in a villainous feud with Stephanie Vaquer. In a March 20, 2026, interview with Esteban Ramirez, Nikki admitted that the sudden shift to a “neutral” persona caught her off guard and led to significant backstage confusion.

“Yeah, well, the Monday Night Raw after, that’s why I was so confused, because I’m like, they have to be booing me. Like, I just had a massive heel turn,” Nikki stated. She explained that management specifically instructed her to tone down her aggressive personality and play a more neutral role—a direction she claims does not fit her authentic self. “And it was hard because they told me to be neutral, which I’m not. I’m not a neutral person.”

The return of Brie Bella added another layer of complexity to the creative direction. Nikki noted that her sister naturally draws a positive reaction from the global audience, making it difficult for the duo to operate as villains. Nikki expressed frustration with the shift, as she felt she had finally found her rhythm as a heel during her recent triple-threat championship opportunities. She even noted that she had begun insulting her own favorite sports teams to solidify her status as a primary antagonist before being told to pivot.

“Then Brie is always the big babyface, so that was difficult—especially when I was even dissing my own favorite football team, because I just go straight into heel mode,” Nikki added. “I was just like, I just want to be a heel. I was having a lot of fun. I felt like in that triple-threat match, I finally got comfortable. I found my place.”

As the road to WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas reaches its final weeks, Nikki has officially decided to stop forcing a persona that feels artificial. She made it clear that while fans or management may label her a “babyface,” her in-ring delivery and promos will remain intense and unfiltered. “I’m a natural heel… if you’re going to label me a babyface, that’s fine, but I’m no longer delivering things at a neutral or babyface level because that’s not me,” she concluded. “I’m going to deliver with everything I have… and that’s just what you’re going to get—you’re going to get Nikki Bella.”
