Report: WWE Had Significant Interest In Talent Before She Signed With AEW

All Elite Wrestling officially announced the signing of international standout Persephone earlier this week, bolstering their women’s division with one of lucha libre’s brightest rising stars. However, a new report suggests that AEW was not the only suitor vying for her signature. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has confirmed that WWE had been tracking the 24-year-old for months, with interest dating back to her performance at a major cross-promotional event last summer.

WWE’s Long-Standing Interest

Persephone reportedly caught the eye of WWE scouts during her appearance at Forbidden Door in London. In that bout, she represented CMLL in a high-profile four-way match for the TBS Championship, facing off against Mercedes Moné, Bozilla, and Alex Windsor.

“WWE was very interested in her since the London match. She turned the corner in October, when she had a legit ****1/4 match in challenging Mone for the CMLL world title on 10/17 which drew 9,500 fans, the largest crowd for an all-women’s pro wrestling show anywhere in the world in many years.”

A Rapid Rise to Stardom

Originally from El Paso, Texas, Persephone’s stock has risen exponentially over the last year. Beyond her critically acclaimed match with Moné, she capped off her 2025 by winning the prestigious CMLL Women’s Grand Prix in October. Her recent resume also includes a spot on the massive NJPW/AEW Tokyo Dome card on January 5. By securing her services, AEW has not only gained a proven draw but also blocked a competitor that WWE clearly viewed as a future star. Fans can likely expect her to debut on Dynamite or Collision as soon as she is cleared from her current minor injury.
