Jade Cargill has been presented as an unstoppable force since her arrival in WWE, often compared to superheroes for her statuesque physique and dominance. However, during a heated exchange on SmackDown last September, the “Storm” faced a gritty reality that tested the company’s PG boundaries. In a recent interview with WWE, the current Women’s Champion opened up about a specific incident where she was busted open the hard way, revealing a chaotic backstage reaction from Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque involving sponsors and the younger demographic.
Cargill described the moment vividly, noting that the injury forced her to completely change her planned celebration. Originally, she intended to stand atop the announcer’s table and beat her chest like King Kong to assert her dominance. However, once the blood began to flow, the reaction from the live crowd forced an audible.
“You can’t see it right now, but I have my face was split open a couple weeks ago and we had to improvise. I was gonna actually get on the announcer’s table and like beat my chest like King Kong and then it happened. The entire arena in unison, was like ‘Ohh.’ You have to improvise and just keep on going and follow through. It’s insane. You can’t hide.”
While Cargill embraced the violence, leaning into the moment by looking directly into the lens and roaring like a lion, the reaction in the “Gorilla Position” was one of panic. She revealed that Triple H immediately got on the headset to demand the cameras cut away, citing the company’s obligations to their corporate partners and their family-friendly rating.
“I had probably somebody with their camera right in my eye the entire time. I looked into the camera and I roar it like a lion, but Triple H was like, ‘Get that camera off her! Get it off! We have sponsors, you can’t show that we have kids at home.’”
The anecdote highlights the delicate balancing act WWE performs, even in its new era. While the on-screen product often flirts with edgier content, the business reality of retaining major sponsors remains a top priority for Levesque and TKO management.
Cargill’s ability to “keep on going” was on display again during yesterday’s episode of SmackDown in London. The WWE Women’s Champion sat ringside for the match between Jordynne Grace and Chelsea Green, scouting her potential competition for the Royal Rumble season. Following Grace’s victory, a verbal confrontation ensued, with Grace challenging Cargill to step into the ring “right here, right now.” The situation escalated when Chelsea Green attempted a cheap shot at Grace but accidentally struck Cargill instead. Grace taunted the champion by holding up the title belt before tossing it back, leaving Cargill fuming as the show went off the air. With Grace now officially on the blue brand, that “King Kong” intensity Cargill spoke of may be needed sooner rather than later.
