The landscape of WWE is set to change once again, as one of the company’s most tenured and respected veterans has confirmed his impending exit. Tommaso Ciampa, a man synonymous with the “Black and Gold” era of NXT and a staple of the main roster for years, has officially announced that he is leaving WWE. The former NXT Champion released a heartfelt statement confirming reports—specifically those first broken by BodySlam.net—that his contract is set to expire in the “very near future” and that he has chosen not to renew it, bringing a definitive end to his celebrated ten-year run with the promotion.
Ciampa’s statement was a reflection on a decade that saw him evolve from an unsigned participant in the Cruiserweight Classic to one of the most decorated superstars in the modern history of the company. In his address to the fans and his peers, Ciampa expressed immense gratitude for the opportunities he was afforded. “I’d like to thank every single person who contributed to the last ten years of this incredible journey,” he wrote. He made sure to extend his appreciation to the various departments and personnel behind the scenes, emphasizing the bond he formed with the locker room. “A very special thank you to all of the men and women who I’ve shared a ring and locker room with… nothing but love and respect.”
However, it was his specific mention of the developmental brand that likely resonated most with long-time viewers. Ciampa’s career is inextricably linked to NXT, where his rivalries and storylines helped define the brand’s peak popularity. He acknowledged this legacy directly, writing, “And I would be remiss not to give a special thank you to my black and gold family. You will forever hold an incredibly special place in my heart.” His tenure in NXT included runs as NXT Champion and Tag Team Champion, and his storylines often served as the emotional anchor for the brand’s TakeOver events.
Regarding his future, the “Sicilian Psychopath” made it abundantly clear that retirement is not on the table. Breaking his career down into chapters, Ciampa outlined a vision for a “third decade” of competition. “I spent the first decade of my career traveling the world on the independent scene. I spent the second decade of my career traveling the world with WWE. I have one decade remaining and I’m beyond excited for whatever challenges lie ahead,” he stated. This declaration effectively squashes any speculation that injuries or age might force him to hang up his boots, signaling instead that he is ready to test himself in new environments.
Ciampa concluded his announcement by officially opening his books for business, signaling a return to the hustle of the independent circuit or perhaps a move to another major televised promotion. “With that said, for the first time in over ten years, I am available for all appearances, signings, photo ops, seminars, movies, tv appearances, fitness collaborations, sponsorships and so forth.” This availability marks a significant shift in the wrestling landscape, as promoters worldwide will undoubtedly be clamoring to book a talent of his caliber who is fresh off a decade-long run on global television.
