Rey Mysterio Suffered Legitimate Injury On WWE Raw

A chaotic night on Monday Night Raw took a turn for the worse as WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio reportedly suffered a legitimate injury during his match against Austin Theory. The bout, which was made on the fly by General Manager Adam Pearce following a tense confrontation with The Vision, saw Mysterio finish the contest, but it became immediately apparent that something was wrong once the bell rang.

According to a report from Bryan Alvarez of F4Wonline.com, Mysterio was “legit hurt” during the exchange. The injury appears to be centered around his shoulder, which he was seen favoring heavily while remaining on the apron. The situation was serious enough that the referee threw up the dreaded ‘X’ sign—the universal signal to the backstage crew that a performer requires immediate medical attention. To avoid focusing on the injury, the broadcast quickly switched gears to a backstage promo involving Natalya while Mysterio was helped to the back by officials.

Rey Mysterio Misses Post-Match Angle With The Vision

The legitimacy of the injury was further highlighted by Mysterio’s non-involvement in the post-match segment. The script called for The Vision to lay out Mysterio’s allies, Dragon Lee and Penta, in a display of dominance ahead of the Royal Rumble. While Lee and Penta took their bumps, Mysterio did not participate in the physical altercation, remaining on the sidelines with trainers. This is a devastating blow for the legendary luchador, who had only just returned to action in November following a groin injury. His return had sparked a resurgence in his feud with his son Dominik and placed him firmly in the mix against the top heels on the red brand.

The timing could not be worse for Mysterio. With the Royal Rumble taking place this Saturday in Saudi Arabia, his status for the event is now in serious doubt. This situation stands in stark contrast to the scare involving rookie Je’Von Evans last week. While Evans’ match was stopped due to injury concerns, he appeared on Raw this week to confirm he is fine and declared for the Rumble. Unfortunately for Mysterio, his road to Riyadh seems to have hit a major roadblock.
