After a noticeable absence from television that had the rumor mill spinning, The Street Profits appear poised to make their return to the ring this weekend. However, fans tuning into Friday nights will have to wait a little longer, as their return will not be taking place under the bright lights of SmackDown. According to a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, the former Tag Team Champions are slated to work upcoming NXT live events this weekend instead of the main roster loop.
Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins have been missing from WWE programming in recent weeks, leading to widespread speculation regarding their current status. In the world of professional wrestling, a sudden disappearance often signals a physical setback, but reports indicate that is not the case here. According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, both men are healthy and are not dealing with any physical issues. “Neither of the Street Profits are hurt,” the report stated, putting to rest fears that one of the company’s most charismatic duos was sidelined by medical clearance issues.
Instead, Meltzer reported that the team’s hiatus is purely a creative decision. The report noted that the decision was made to take them off TV specifically to “allow them to freshen up.” This strategic pause suggests that WWE officials felt the act had perhaps become stagnant and are looking to repackage or reset the team before reintroducing them to the blue brand’s audience. Sending established main roster talent to NXT live events is a tactic the company has utilized effectively in the past. It provides a low-pressure environment for superstars to work off ring rust, test out new character nuances, or simply add star power to the developmental brand’s touring schedule while creative finalizes plans for their television return.
