Fans of Rey Mysterio can breathe a collective sigh of relief today. Following a frightening scene on Monday Night Raw where the legendary luchador appeared to suffer a legitimate injury, Mysterio has provided a positive update via social media. Taking to Instagram, the Hall of Famer posted a photo of himself on a plane alongside his LWO stablemates, Penta and Dragon Lee, confirming that he is indeed en route to Saudi Arabia for the Royal Rumble.
The concern for Mysterio began during his match against Austin Theory on Monday night. Towards the end of the bout, Mysterio was seen favoring his leg, and immediately after the pinfall, the referee threw up the dreaded “X” sign to signal for medical assistance. The situation looked dire as Mysterio was helped to the back by officials and was conspicuously absent from the post-match brawl involving The Vision.
However, his presence on the flight to Riyadh suggests that the injury may not be as severe as initially feared, or at least not severe enough to keep him grounded. While there has been no official medical statement from WWE regarding his specific condition, Mysterio remains advertised for the 30-man Royal Rumble match this Saturday. At 51 years old, Mysterio’s resilience is legendary, but fans will still be watching closely when he enters the ring to see if he is moving at 100 percent. For now, the Master of the 619 is ready for takeoff.
