The anticipation for this weekend’s Royal Rumble just hit a fever pitch thanks to the man in charge of creative. Appearing on ESPN’s Get Up just moments ago, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque made a bold promise to the fanbase regarding the 30-person over-the-top-rope matches. When asked what fans can expect from the historic event in Riyadh, Triple H stated plainly, “there are a lot of surprises in store.”
The comment confirms what many have suspected: despite the Royal Rumble taking place outside of North America for the first time ever, WWE is not holding back on the shock value. Whether it be returning legends, debuting superstars, or celebrity cameos, the “January Classic” is defined by the unexpected, and Triple H’s words suggest that the trek to Saudi Arabia will be no exception.
For weeks, fans have questioned how WWE could possibly conceal surprise entrants when they are required to coordinate long-haul international travel. However, a new report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select indicates that the logistics of the trip actually make secrecy easier. “In previous years, WWE would have to worry about people seeing the talent travel in at various airports… Now, many there feel as if with their plane chartered, and more privacy provided at their air strip and hotels, it will be easier to keep that quiet,” the report stated.
The report also noted that while the main roster talent charter takes off in the wee hours after Raw, there are specific plans to bring in other talent “on their own later in the week, including surprise names.” This streamlined process allows WWE to protect its biggest secrets until the music hits on Saturday night.
With Triple H confirming that surprises are “in store,” the rumor mill is spinning faster than ever. The biggest name circulating is Chris Jericho, with speculation mounting that the former AEW World Champion could be making a shock return for one final run. Another potential major debut is former AEW star Powerhouse Hobbs, who is reportedly set to debut under the new name “Royce Keys.”
Additionally, BodySlam reported earlier this month that heavy hitters like Brock Lesnar, LA Knight, and Chad Gable are expected to be in Riyadh. On the women’s side, reinforcements could include a returning Tiffany Stratton, AJ Lee, and perhaps the long-awaited return of Bianca Belair, who has been out of action since WrestleMania 42. With Triple H giving the green light to expect the unexpected, fans will have to tune in to see which of these rumors becomes reality.
