AEW President Tony Khan continues to aggressively bolster his roster in 2026. Following a surprise appearance on television this past weekend, it appears that New Japan Pro Wrestling standout Clark Connors is officially making the jump to All Elite Wrestling. According to a new report from Fightful Select, the company is finalizing a deal to bring the “Wild Rhino” into the fold on a permanent basis.
Clark Connors Offered AEW Contract Following NJPW Departure
Sources indicated to Fightful that Connors is expected to sign with the company “imminently.” An offer is currently on the table, and both sides are moving quickly to finalize the agreement. This news comes just days after Connors made his presence felt on the January 31 episode of AEW Collision. In a hard-hitting contest, Connors took on Darby Allin, showcasing the rugged style that made him a staple of the NJPW Junior Heavyweight division.
The appearance on Collision was not a solo affair. Connors was joined by his long-time War Dogs ally, Gabe Kidd, further cementing the connection between the two promotions—or perhaps signaling a raid of talent. Fightful had previously reported in December that Connors’ deal with New Japan was set to expire soon, and it appears AEW wasted no time in securing his services once he became available.
Does This Open The Door For David Finlay?
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this signing is what it suggests about AEW’s broader intentions. Connors and Kidd have been integral members of the Bullet Club War Dogs faction, led by David Finlay. AEW sources reportedly believe that the arrival of Connors—and the potential long-term involvement of Kidd—indicates an “increased interest” from AEW regarding Finlay himself.
The leader of the War Dogs is approaching free agency, and with his stablemates now setting up shop on TNT and TBS, the path for Finlay to join them has never been clearer. If AEW manages to secure Finlay as well, it would effectively transplant one of NJPW’s top factions onto American soil, reshaping the balance of power in the wrestling world.
